爆料王 has struck a forward-thinking apprenticeship deal with the NEC Group鈥檚 catering arm to help combat the industry鈥檚 shortage of skilled chefs.
The University and Amadeus have joined forces to create 15, bespoke Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeships, the chance to earn while you train with a multi-award winning employer and UCB鈥檚 world-leading College of Food.
Amadeus鈥 Food and Beverage Director, Marc Frankl, its HR Business Director, Emma Cope, and UCB鈥檚 Vice-Chancellor and聽Principal,聽Professor聽Ray聽Linforth, signed on the dotted line at a launch of the apprenticeships, which will combine on-the-job training at the Amadeus sites, and off-the-job training at UCB鈥檚 state-of-the-art facilities in Birmingham city centre.

Apprentices will have the opportunity to participate in a structured programme that will develop their skills and knowledge with real-life experience,聽working alongside professional chefs both within Amadeus and UCB, where they will learn how to develop and deliver high end menus and products.
Prospective apprentices are now being encouraged to get their application in before the closing date of 4 January, 2018, after which the successful 15 candidates will be selected.
Gail Tipper, Head of Apprenticeships at UCB, said: 鈥淲ith a pledge from the government to increase the number of apprenticeships to three million by 2020, and exciting apprenticeship reforms to support genuine employer-focused delivery, opportunities like this are part of a widespread effort to bridge the significant skills shortage in the UK catering industry, particularly for young people.
鈥淭he deal is one of the first for UCB that reflects the government鈥檚 new apprenticeship regulations and we are excited to be part of Amadeus鈥 quest to bring on the next generation of top chefs.鈥
Once the 15 apprentices have completed the 24-month programme, they will undertake an end-point assessment to ensure apprentices meet the industry benchmark. UCB and Amadeus, which caters for Birmingham鈥檚 Sea Life Centre, Coventry Cathedral, Cadbury World and Hagley Hall among other regional and national venues as well as the NEC Group, will jointly undertake this assessment.
