"With over three decades of experience, from Opera North to BBC Birmingham and the London freelance scene, I'm here to prepare you for the realities of a career in hair and make-up."

With over three decades of experience in make-up for film, television, and theatre, my journey has taken me from the bustling wigs department at Opera North in Leeds to the fast-paced sets of BBC Birmingham, and later, to the heart of London鈥檚 creative scene as a freelance hair and make-up artist.聽
My expertise spans everything from character make-up effects and period hair to the intricate art of postiche (a type of hairpiece used widely across the industry) and the history of make-up and hair. I teach across the Specialist Hair and Media Make-Up programme, Prosthetics for Stage and Screen, and the new Hair, Make-Up and Business Management course. I鈥檓 constantly inspired by the ways in which UCB students develop within the course, progressing from absolute beginner to finally mastering both the technical and creative sides of this craft.聽

My vast career working in theatre and TV, and the fact that I continue to take on projects in the industry, means that my teaching is always current and relevant. I bring a wealth of knowledge, industry connections, and real-world advice into the classroom, ensuring students are prepared for the realities of a career in hair and make-up. While this world can appear glamorous from the outside, you should be ready for the early mornings, unpredictable weather, and creative problem-solving. One day, you鈥檒l undoubtedly face the challenge of keeping a performer鈥檚 hair and make-up perfect while it鈥檚 pouring with rain, and I鈥檓 here to prepare you for that day! My proudest moments are seeing students from all backgrounds grow in confidence, develop their skills, and launch their own successful careers. I offer practical support and feedback, and I work hard to create a supportive environment where everyone鈥檚 efforts are recognised and valued.聽
When I鈥檓 not teaching, I volunteer for Look Good Feel Better, a charity that helps give a confidence boost to people undergoing cancer treatment. I鈥檓 driven by the transformative power of make-up: whether it鈥檚 enhancing someone鈥檚 natural beauty, or creating a character that鈥檚 unrecognisable. And for a bit of industry inspiration, I鈥檇 recommend checking out the Last Looks podcast.
In my spare time, I鈥檓 learning Spanish for fun. I also dabble in portrait drawing, and I enjoy wild swimming and early morning runs.
