"After a career as an elite footballer, including representing my country and playing for Arsenal and Birmingham City Women, I now teach and mentor students to help them build the skills, resilience, and mindset needed to succeed."

As an Associate Professor in Sport Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), I bring my expertise in elite football, teaching and learning, strength and conditioning, and behaviour management into the classroom. I teach on the MSc Strength, Conditioning and Performance programme, drawing on a rich academic background that includes a Postgraduate Certificate in Special Educational Needs Coordination.

My professional journey spans both the classroom and the football pitch: I have represented my country internationally in football and played for prestigious clubs including Arsenal and Birmingham City Ladies, as well as managing Hednesford Town Ladies Football. This first-hand experience as an elite athlete gives me authentic insight into the motivation, discipline, and resilience needed to excel. I use these lessons every day to inspire and mentor my students, shaping not just their skills but their confidence and growth mindset.

I have also contributed to cross-university development in behaviour management and inclusive practice, always advocating for a learning environment that values teamwork, discipline, and progress. I was proud to have won UCB’s Spotlight on ‘Great Teaching’ Award twice. I actively seek out enrichment opportunities through internal and external partnerships, ensuring that my students get access to practical, hands-on experiences that complement their academic study.

My core advice for students joining UCB is simple: make the most of every opportunity. University is about developing the skills, resilience, and mindset that will carry you far beyond your studies. Success, as I have learned through my own experiences as both a student and an athlete, comes from consistency, self-belief, and openness to feedback. Don’t hesitate to seek support or take ownership of your learning - the more you invest in the process, the more you’ll gain. I also believe in stepping outside of one’s comfort zone - ships are safe at harbour, but that's not what they are built for.

Outside of work, I remain deeply involved in sport - playing, managing, and watching football. I also enjoy going to see live theatre and music. Finally, I’m fascinated by philosophies, such as Mel Robbins’s ‘Let Them’ theory.
